Impact of Dry Eye Disease on Vision Quality

Using the optical quality analysis system (OQAS) provides a better understanding of patient complaints about vision quality changes in patients with dry eye disease, according to a retrospective evaluation involving 136 eyes of 72 individuals. 

Investigators assessed vision quality with the OQAS, using the objective scatter index (OSI) recorded over 20 seconds without blinking. Specifically, they looked for links between dry eye signs/symptoms and OSI measurements. Among the results: 

• OSI and OSI standard deviation (OSI SD) correlated with TBUT, Oxford score, and the Van Bijsterveld score. 
• OSI also correlated with the Schirmer test, ocular surface disease index (OSDI), and the ocular symptoms subscale of the OSDI.
• OSI SD correlated with the environmental triggers subscale of the OSDI.
